Watercolor painting of Louisa de Fonseka Louisa de Fonseka:

Louisa
was the eldest daughter of Juan de Silva Jayasingha and married  Mudaliyar S. R. de Fonseka in 1883. They had six children, viz. Simon Richard Junior, Lydia Florence, Lionel Stanley,  Muriel Leticia, Louisa Bridget, and May Elaine. Louisa died in 1902.

The book 20th Century Impressions, printed around 1910 features some photographs of the family. The main photograph shows the family gathered round a large portrait of Louisa, which has been lovingly kept in a chair as part of the family.

It is said that this portrait drawn by Ailie Hamilton in 1914, was based on that photograph.

Louisa was the eldest daughter of Juan de Silva Jayasingha, a wealthy entrepreneur from Galle. She had six sisters and they were popularly known as the 'Seven Sisters'.
